Our Story: How Mazengwa Mission Hospital Was Born

The vision for Mazengwa Mission Hospital began with the deep compassion of one family—moved and burdened by the daily struggles faced by the people of Bikita and the surrounding communities. For years, the Mazengwa family witnessed neighbours suffering due to long distances to healthcare facilities, delays in receiving treatment, and the heartbreaking loss of lives that could have been saved with timely medical care.

What started as a concern grew into a calling.

Driven by empathy and a strong desire to uplift their community, the family took a bold step: to build a hospital that would bring quality healthcare closer to the people. Brick by brick, and through personal sacrifice, the dream of Mazengwa Mission Hospital began to take shape. The hospital was envisioned as a sanctuary of healing—where every person, regardless of background or income, could receive compassionate and reliable medical care.

Recognising that the community needed more than a hospital alone, the family established WaJosiah Development Trust—a foundation built to address the broader challenges affecting vulnerable families, young people, and the environment. Through the Trust, the mission expanded to include family support, health and social care, education, environmental resilience, and humanitarian aid.

However, despite the family’s unwavering commitment, the construction of Mazengwa Mission Hospital has faced significant financial obstacles. Much of the work has been funded privately, but rising costs and limited resources have slowed progress, delaying a facility that the community urgently needs.

Today, WaJosiah Development Trust is appealing for assistance from partners, donors, organisations, and well-wishers who share the belief that every life is valuable and every community deserves access to quality healthcare. Support is needed to complete the hospital buildings, equip critical departments, and prepare the facility for operation.

With your help, this vision can finally become reality—bringing life-saving services, hope, and dignity to thousands of families.

Together, we can complete Mazengwa Mission Hospital.
